Abstract

There are various risks in the life cycle of construction projects due to their unique essence. Risk management is recognized as one of the most important processes for achieving project goals including time, cost, quality and scope. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the risk factors affecting the construction projects of Shiraz Municipality. In this study, based on the background of research and available documentaries in Shiraz Municipality, 49 risks related to construction projects were identified and classified in nine groups including work force, material, equipment, contractor, consultant, employer, climate, contractual and environmental. By distributing the questionnaire, the probability of ccurrence and the severity of the impact of the risks were assessed on the objectives and the value of each risk was calculated. Then, according to the likelihood and effect matrix, the most important risks were identified and eight  critical risks were selected through interviews with experts. The risks were weighed and prioritized by AHP method and Expert Choice software, the results show that the planning and scheduling weakness of the contractor, the delay in the prerequisite activity and encountering the financial problems due to contractor disability are the most important risks in the construction projects of Shiraz Municipality. Finally, due to the  priority of the risks and available limitations in the projects, the risk response plan was presented.
